Monday Angel Reese’s night ended a little earlier than expected. The Sky rookie was sent to the showers in the final minutes of Chicago’s 88-75 loss to the New York Liberty after an exchange with an official.
Even in this cupcake era, it seems inconceivable that Reese would suffer any further ramifications other than the ejection, however, if she is subject to any financial consequences she won’t have to personally foot the bill.
Bulls guard Lonzo Ball, who was in attendance at the Tuesday night matchup, was not a fan of the ejection and also let it be known he would take care of any fine that may be accessed to Reese.
The WNBA rescinded the second technical foul that ended Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese’s night early.
Reese was called for her fifth foul with just 2:31 left in the Sky’s matchup against the Liberty. Reese offered a weak protest to the foul call and as she walked away waved her hand. That caused the official, Charles Walton, to get emotional like Carl Thomas and quickly hit Reese with two Ts, thus giving her an early trip to the showers.
In the postgame presser, Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon addressed the ejection, as best she could, saying, “I tried to get an explanation. I did not. I don’t know to this moment what has happened.”
Lead official Maj Forsberg said to reporters after the contest that Angel Reese was ejected for “disrespectfully addressing” an official and then “waving her hand in dismissal.”
Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball had Reese’s back, tweeting that the ejection was “weak” and he would pay any fines.
Reese responded saying “appreciate you gang!”
The first three techs a wnba player gets cost them $200 apiece. That fine doubles to $400 for technicals four through six; the cost for the seventh doubles again to $800 and is accompanied by a 1-game suspension.
